From the main gate to the chapel
Start on verlängerte Rathenaustraße. The lime-tree avenue leads to Max Stutterheim’s neo-Gothic brick chapel. From the path, you can look at its windows, brick friezes and steep gables without disturbing a ceremony.
Continue to the Rathenau family tomb
Next, find the Rathenau memorial area shown on the site plan. Alfred Messel’s tomb design connects the cemetery with the family of AEG’s founder and foreign minister Walther Rathenau. View the structure from outside.
Along the historic tombs
The row of family monuments offers further insight into local history. Carl Deul’s honorary grave is near the Rathenau tomb. Use the inscriptions for orientation; this guide does not provide a continuous route to every individual grave.
Returning and accessibility
Return before the gates close. The main paths make a better starting point than narrow routes between burial plots. Some passages are only 50 cm wide.
